Bridging Science, Policy, and Industry

The mission of the EERA Joint Programme on Carbon Capture and Storage (EERA JP CCS) is to drive the development and deployment of CCS technologies that significantly reduce CO₂ emissions and help Europe meet its climate neutrality goals by 2050.

As the research pillar of the European Union's Strategic Energy Technology (SET) Plan, we provide strategic leadership across a dispersed research landscape. By coordinating national and European R&I programmes, we maximize synergies, avoid duplication, and deliver the economies of scale needed to accelerate large-scale CCS deployment.

  • European Leadership: Acting as the leading authority providing strategic R&I leadership.
  • Large-Scale Deployment: Focusing on cost-effective capture, secure storage, and efficient transport.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partnering with ECCSEL ERIC, ZEP, and the SET-Plan IWG9 to translate research into policy and practical application.

JOINT PROGRAMMES

The Joint Programme is structured in four sub-programmes.

CO2 Capture Coordinator: Marie Bysveen
(marie.bysveen@sintef.no)

The CO2 capture sub-programme is organised in four areas:

  • Post-combustion capture
  • Pre-combustion capture
  • Oxyfuel capture
  • Cross-cutting issues

CO2 Storage Coordinator: Jonathan Pearce
(jmpe@bgs.ac.uk)

The CO2 storage sub-programme is organised in three areas:

  • Monitoring
  • Static modelling
  • Dynamic modelling

CO2 Transport Coordinator: Roland Span
(roland.span@thermo.rub.de)

The Transport sub-programme is organised in three areas:

  • CO2 pipeline transport and integrity
  • Shipping of CO2
  • Cross-cutting issues in CO2 transport systems (e.g. benchmarking and risk assessment)

Communication and Outreach Coordinator: Filip Neele
(filip.neele@tno.nl)
